Hey!! My name is Zaira Pizano, and I am a 17-year-old high schooler who isn't afraid to go on new adventures. My childhood wasn't the same as my classmates. While everyone was learning how to read and write, I was learning how to speak and understand English. Through the help of my first-grade teacher, Mrs. Herbert, and programs such as English in a Flash, English soon became my second language and my favorite subject. Learning English has helped me grow as a person and brought me many opportunities. These skills have influenced my decisions and brought new skills along the way. For example, confidence has guided me to not be afraid to explore the unknown. Before I knew it, I was auditioning for my school’s dance team where I developed a bond with thirteen strong and wonderful individuals that taught me what it meant to be on a team. My affection to keep exploring lead me to take part of my school’s first swim team. Swim soon has become my favorite sport and can't wait for a new swim season to start.
I'm currently a senior at Sage Creek High School. This past 3 years I have joined clubs: biomed, positivity, and improv. I have participated in activities such as dance company, swim team, and ensemble in the winter musical. Additionally, I've been been working at Subway for a year now and― as a job for a high schooler with no experience― working at subway is a good opportunity.
Post-high school, I want to attend a four-year college and major in Psychology. I feel passionate about the impact psychology can have in our society and find an interest on the science behind it. I've always had an interest for how the human body works, more specifically how the brain works to function our bodies and influence the way people behave and feel. My interest for science has been reflected through my 4 years of Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science and my current AP Psychology class.
"Dance is way to find yourself and lose yourselves all at that same time" ( Peter Townsend). Being involved in many school activities, clubs, and AP classes can be stressful. I have the honor to be able to express myself and relief myself from all that stress with dancing. After a long and exhausting school day, it's a pleasure to end school with dance as my last class of the day. Math equations, homework, and worries all seem to fade away. I'm able to lose myself within the dance and find my true love of dancing at the same time.
